Uesugi Snow Lantern Festival

Held at the Uesugi shrine’s premises, the dreamy candle lights illuminate Yonezawa’s snowscape.

Sasano Kannon Jushichidou Festival

Also known as the New Year’s Eve festival, it was traditionally held on the 17th (jushichi-nichi) of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. Stalls selling woodcrafts like otakapoppo, rabbit zodiac figures, the deities Ebisu and Daikokuten, and many more, will be open for the day. Plus, you can participate in firewalking, which is believed to ward off diseases, at the Kannon temple premises.

古时在阴历12月17日举行的笹野观音十七堂祭，又称除夕祭典。 在这一天，商铺林立，许多人前来求一刀雕刻的雄鹰、笹野花、恵比寿大黒或十二生肖等当作幸运符，场景热闹非凡。在观音堂内，为了祈求新的一年无病无灾，会进行走火祭。

Starting from 24th December 2022, you can sign up to hitch a ride on a snow groomer up in Tengendai Kogen and enjoy a little retreat into a winter wonderland! Who knows, you might even encounter some of the local wildlife as you admire the surrounding scenery!

Due to low snowfall at Tengendai Kogen, the ski resort determined that it is not fit for skiing at the moment. The slopes will be opened once there is sufficient snow cover.

Do note that the ropeway will be open regardless of snow cover!

The pre-opening mountain safety prayer ceremony will be held on 25th November, and the ski slopes will be opened right after. Various events will also be held during this season, so do drop by for some winter sports!
