◎頒布資料で義光について書かれた５００円位のものがあると良いと思う。

◎鬼切丸（実物）と延沢満延の展示をしてほしい。

◎鬼切丸の実物が見てみたい。

◎伊達家との関係（関ヶ原以前）の義光公の動きをもう少し知りたかった。

◎ガイドさんをお願いしていなかったのに、声をかけてもらい説明してもらえたので大変良かった。

◎文化人としての義光に興味を持った。周辺大名との関係がどのようであったのか詳しく知りたいと思った。

◎大変よろしい。盛岡市にも似た建物が出来たが、十万石と五十万石の力をおもいしらされた。

◎初めて入館したが、時間を充分取れなかったので、次はゆっくり見学したい。

◎東北における他の大名（豪族？）との血縁が知りたい。かなり政略結婚で結びついて、親戚同士で争ったりもしていたようなので・・（天文の大乱等）

◎最上家の説明が聞けてよかった。説明がなければ、よくある他の資料館のようなものだと思い、サッと見て帰ってしまったと思う。

◎最上義光公が歴史上果たした役割がよく理解できた。

◎義光の功績がより明確になるような展示方法はないのかな？刀剣について裏側も見える展示をお願いしたい。

◎ボランティアガイドの方の説明がわかりやすく良かった。イメージが変わった。

◎ぜひまた来たいと思う。

◎長谷堂城だけでなく、畑谷城のジオラマも見たい（あったら）わかる範囲でよいから、慶長出羽合戦に出陣した武将、戦死した武将の名前も知りたい。

◎お城の模型があればよかったと思う。

◎いろいろと説明してもらいよかった。いきいきとした情報を感じた。

◎クイズのVOL２を出してほしい。

◎文書の原文には現代訳をつけた方がよいと思う。義光公の兄弟たちについての記述や資料、家臣の構成などのパネルがあった方がもっとわかりやすいと思う。

Battle Standard

Battle Standard

A Mogami family heirloom, this battle standard was said to have been captured as a war trophy when Mogami forces defeated the Uesugi Army during a battle of the Dewa Campaign at the entrance to Kaminoyama in the year 1600. This standard features the distinctly modern design of a single wild goose in flight upon a white background. In the Battle of Hasedō Standing Screen, a flag with a very similar design can be seen in the upper half of the sixth panel of the left-hand screen.(L)

Iron Baton, Iron Fan

Passed down through the Mogami family, these two implements of warfare were used by Yoshiaki himself. The iron baton is 86.5 cm in length and weighs 1750 grams, making it as heavy as two swords. Inscribed on the surface of the baton is “Descendant of the Seiwa Emperor, Lord of Yamagata in Dewa, the Monk with Hair, Yoshiaki”, indicating Yoshiaki’s lineage and honorary title and attesting to his devout nature. Although the iron fan would originally have had a covering, this cover has been lost through the years, with only the iron spokes remaining. Weighing 575 g, this fan could be used not only as an actual fan, but also as an offensive weapon as well as for deflecting swords and arrows.(L)

38-Plate Gilt-Edged Ribbed Sujikabuto Helmet

A helmet worn by Mogami Yoshiaki, said to have been a gift from Oda Nobunaga. The helmet bowl is an elegant example of craftsmanship from the early Muromachi period, while features including the shikoro (neckguard) and mabisashi (helmet visor) were reformed during Yoshiaki’s lifetime, when the “sparrows and bamboo” Mogami family crest was also added to the stylized helmet decoration. Worn by Yoshiaki during the Battle of Hasedō in 1600, the helmet was struck by an enemy bullet, but protected Yoshiaki from harm. A testament to the fierceness of the fighting, the helmet still bears the marks of this bullet. Weight, 3.1 kg.
*The twin horned crest and central sword-shaped fixture were restored in March, 2008.(L)

Mogami Yoshiaki was the ruling lord of Yamagata around 400 years ago.
He is the one who planned and built the city of Yamagata.

He did so much so the people of Yamagata could live peaceful and happy lives!

　・Planned the city of Yamagata around 400 years ago.
　
　・Built Yamagata Castle (Today's Kajō Park includes the area that was inside the two central moats)

　・Built the surrounding castle town including present day Nanoka-machi and Tōka-machi,
　the foundation for the city of Yamagata. Started the January 10th New Year's Market

　・Made possible rich rice harvests in the Shōnai area

　・Made possible safe navigation of the Mogami River

　・Considerately lowered taxes on farmers, trades and crafts people

　・Supported temples and shrines

　・Brought styles and trends from cities like Kyoto and Osaka to Yamagata

　・Developed the prosperous cultivation of beni-bana safflowers used for dyeing

The Life of Mogami Yoshiaki

The Life of Mogami Yoshiaki

1546 [age one]
Born the first son of Mogami Yoshimori, Lord of Yamagata Castle.
He was called Hakujūmaru as a child.

1558 [age 13] 　　
Celebrated the rite to mark his attainment of manhood, and receiving the right to use the character "Yoshi" [ 義 ] from the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru he took the name "Yoshiaki" [ 義光 ] .

1570[age 25]
Succeeded to the head of the Mogami clan.
Counting from Shiba Kaneyori, he became the 11th Lord of Yamagata Castle.

1600 [age 55]
Battle of Keichō Dewa / Naoe Kanetsugu's Uesugi forces attack Yamagata.
Fierce fighting at Hasedo, Kaminoyama and other places in Yamagata Prefecture.

1602 [age 57]
Became a great daimyo with land holdings which produced 570 thousand koku [135 million liters] of rice. His was the fifth largest domain, outside of Tokugawa Toyotomi's clan. At this time Yamagata was completely laid out as a fully equipped castle town.

1611 [age 66]
Took a high ranking position in the Guards, Jyushii Konoe-no-shōshō.
Brought the Shōnai Plain under cultivation by building irrigation systems at Kitadateseki and Inabazeki.

1614 [age 69]
Died of illness in Yamagata Castle on January 18. Was buried at Kōzenji in Yamagata City.
