Dear Yamagata

your beauty surrounds me

a tapestry of colors

wild flowers explodes

red, gold and yellow

shades of cedar and pine green

mountains turn snow from blue

life here is not what I think I knew

but a whole picture a new

like a painting coming alive

your flowers become my food

something inside me grow

a new sense of admiration

for this land of snow

when i saw your sacred mountain

then you know why i know love

where wild flowers grow

like sakura in full bloom

i surrender to nature

giving away the precious colors

the completeness

of dying and giving birth

to a new season of hope

Yamagata

you are the land of many emotions

you are a taste of heaven

where clouds wash my feet

the hands of the farmers

is the love i know of my people

when i see your land burst

your golden rice signal the season for harvest

people shall commune with the earth

chanting prayers, walking bells

the earth needs to rest

so winter is a necessary isolation

let my yellow banana grow in your heart

so people will understand people

so people will stop suffering

feeding other people

so people shall stop

asking for more

while making other people suffer

thank you for making me taste your sweetness

the carrots of Nino

and the ed mame of Ito

Nino and Ito san's fight

is also my struggle

i saw through the eyes of Nino

the pain of our mindanao farmers

and the price they have to pay

to produce yellow bananas spotless

risking their lives, their land and their family

for the health of your people

what is the world without dirty bananas?

what is the world without blind consumers?

what is the world without farmers?

what is the world without food?

Rachel Carson sang the Silent Spring

amazing rain of death

what is right?

what is wrong?

toxic shower for how long?

how much a price we have to pay?

how much poison we have to today?

what constitution say?

what is a law that destroys its people?

what is a crime and not a crime?

what is in a banana

as powerful as a volcanic eruption

taking away lives lowly day by day

Yamagata

made me hear the farmers' cry even louder

when i see yellow cavendish bananas everywhere

then i feel sad that life back in Mindanao is poisoned

while consumers freezes in the winter of blindness

your mothers told me

that bananas, they feed to their babies

bananas are also good for the old and the sick

banana diet, banana power good for well being

do we poison again the silent spring?

what do you say Yamagata?

are you for love of people or banana?

i shall love you even more

when you do what is good for my people?

love,

Rosalie
